Maybe it has something to do with working at “E-town,” but I have come to find myself often thinking in “E-words.” Take, for instance, my recent reflections about some trends and observations related to Blue Jay alumni.
In recent years, E-town alumni have been involving themselves with the College in notably increasing ways as volunteers and providers of insights, expertise and opportunities for students. Likewise, members of the Blue Jay family have been lifting up the College through the inclusion of E-town in their personal milestones—noteworthy work experiences, travel opportunities, weddings, births, new arrivals and special achievements—and the numerous ways they represent the College in their daily lives. Alumni have been key supporters of outstanding fundraising efforts, as well—both as contributors and volunteer leaders. Through actions, on large and small scales, Blue Jays have been caring enough about the College’s ongoing journey to become actively involved with shaping its future.
“Exciting.” “Extraordinary.” “Exceptional.”
All good “E-words.” However, they only tell the complete tale if they are used as descriptors for our alumni “Engagement.”
“Excellent” also is a great word to describe the ways in which our alumni are choosing to engage with—and transform—the College. And, yes; we have a good thing going right now. It is just what we do as alumni. But E-town will only be made stronger as our Blue Jay family’s active engagement with the College grows.
“Extensive” opportunities for meaningful, fulfilling and fun connections with E-town are available and waiting for you. Based on your interests, you could be an Admissions recruitment volunteer, visiting classroom speaker, Alumni Council member, provider of a job shadow or internship experience for a current student, fundraising ambassador, Blue Jay Athletic Association leader—and the list goes on and on.
