The Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Wellness will start to take shape in early 2018. Renovations to the Young Center, residence halls, new outdoor living and learning projects and the creation of a “revolving Green fund,” which will reduce the Colleges’ carbon footprint, are all projects that are made possible by generous campaign support. But buildings are just a small part of the changes happening at the College.
A diverse and well-rounded student body doesn’t just happen. And the biggest hurdle our students face is finding the financial assistance necessary to ensure that their dream of a college education becomes a reality.
That’s where scholarships come in. Forty percent of E-town students are the first in their families to go to college. They are educational pioneers often with limited financial resources. According to the Office of Financial Aid, 95 percent of our students receive assistance.
This aid makes E-town affordable. The Momentum Program offers programming and mentoring designed to support these first-generation students and effectively launches them into productive careers after achieving success at E-town. When our graduates are career-ready and live and work purposefully, it breathes life into our mission.
Prestigious Fellowship and Honors programs challenge the highest-performing students to actively pursue demanding course work and independent research. The programs prepare students to compete for national awards and graduate school and raise the profile of the College and its students on a national and international level.
This campaign makes our faculty a priority. What is it about our faculty members and their commitment to teach students that makes them so special? Our students become leaders and researchers, working alongside faculty advisors who are mentors and friends long after our Blue Jays take flight into the world. High-impact, hands-on learning is the cornerstone of the E-town experience and our faculty members are central to that experience. By supporting professional development and recognizing their passion for student learning and transformation, the College will continue to attract and retain the very best faculty.
