The Return of “Quarry Man” and Other Tall Tales

Posted by in Alumni News, Fall 2015, Happenings | 0 comments

I can distinctly remember the embrace of the crisp, cool, autumn air and the view of the trees outfitted in Mother Nature’s most vibrant pallet of reds, oranges and yellows. It was October in the fall of 1992 on the E-town College campus, and things were getting … interesting. Yes, Halloween was in the near future. Posted by in Alumni News, Fall 2015, Happenings | 0 comments

On March 18, 2015, Elizabethtown College made history. Thanks to the generosity of 849 donors, we surpassed three goals in the Power of One Day 24-Hour Giving Challenge. In so doing, our supporters set a new all-time record for the number of gifts received in one day and raised a total of $177,163.56. Next year’s Power of One Day: March 16, 2016—Save the Date!  Nancy Hahn ’81 challenged the College to achieve 200 donors in just 24 hours by donating an additional $125 for the first 200 gifts received ($25,000). Extraordinarily E-town’s donors exceeded this goal by mid-afternoon. The excitement continued when Trustee Louise Girvin ’65 and husband, Larry, emerged as new Challengers in honor of this historic day. They matched the next 100 contributions with an additional $100 for each gift. By 6 p.m., supporters went beyond this...

Alumni Travel Program Embarks on New ‘Journey’

Posted by in Alumni News, Happenings | 0 comments

While an alumni travel program isn’t new to Elizabethtown College, it has been redesigned—and relaunched with a new name: Jay Journeys. The travel program, paused in 2008 in response to the economic downturn, was reintroduced last spring. Ten alumni, including two trustees, participated in the first international offering, a river cruise trip to Holland and Belgium. Reflections On Coming Home

Posted by in Alumni News, Happenings | 0 comments

Seasons do funny things to me. During my years as a student, I can vividly remember how much I would look forward to returning to campus after the summer to reconnect with student friends, as well as the staff and faculty members with whom I had developed ties during the previous academic year. The strength of these feelings was matched by the anticipation of returning to a place that, in many ways, had become as comfortable and familiar to me as the house in which I had grown up. Without question, the draw to return “home” to E-town each fall quickly became one of my most powerful and treasured intuitions throughout those years. Interestingly enough, that innate sense is still alive and well—and I am still strongly reminded of those warm and cozy feelings every year at this time....
