Amy Mearkle ’98 had a chance meeting with Pearse Lombard ’08 when they both were exhibiting at the same food industry show. Here’s her story: “I was serving samples of DelGrosso Pasta Sauce at our booth. Pearse stopped by for samples. He asked, ‘Where is this sauce made?’  I said in Pennsylvania, and he asked where in PA. I said, ‘In Altoona, about 25 minutes south of State College. How familiar with PA are you?’ He said, ‘I went to College in Elizabethtown.’  I said, “So you are a Blue Jay? So am I!” She said the two found out they both majored in communications and they compared notes. “When I saw him again later I said ….since we ran into each other twice I have to take a photo! It was nice to meet a fellow alum!”  ...

It’s a small world, after all! You never know where you’ll run into a Blue Jay. Alumni Encounters, a new, recurring column launched in Fall 2013, shares stories of random alumni encounters. Blue Jays on the Ball Field As part of Senior Week, the Class of 2013 took a trip to Baltimore to spend the day at the Inner Harbor and take in an Oriole’s game. Prior to the evening game, Catie Cornell ’13 and Donté McCrary-McClain ’13, were sharing in some pre-game festivities at the ballpark. Because the weather was cool, Donté happened to be wearing an Elizabethtown College sweatshirt. Another alumnus, Ben Ebersole ’51—brother to Dr. Luke E. Ebersole ’40 and former President Dr. Mark C. Ebersole ’43—happened to also be in their vicinity and approached them to ask if they, too, were E-town Blue Jays.  After a...
